Kim Sollien - kim.sollien@mvpmpo.com
Kim Sollien brings over 20 years of experience in community development, planning, and conservation to her role as Executive Director of MVP for Transportation. A strategic thinker with a deep commitment to local values, Kim is passionate about creating transportation systems that reflect the unique needs and voices of the Mat-Su communities.
Kim’s work in the region began with community health and planning at Chickaloon Native Village, where she helped launch the Elder Lunch Program and laid the foundation for the Gathering Place, a thriving tribal health center in Sutton. Her impact continued through her conservation work as the Mat-Su Program Director for Great Land Trust, where she helped protect more than 11,000 acres of ecologically and culturally important land — safeguarding salmon runs, wildlife corridors, and public access to public lands for future generations.
She’s also helped shape the region’s recreational infrastructure and long-range planning. As Development Director for the Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation, Kim led the organization’s first strategic plan and developed its donor engagement program. At the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, she served as Planning Services Manager, where she guided a team of long-range planners and championed policy changes that strengthened land use planning across the region.
Kim holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Southern Maine and a Master of Arts in Sustainable Community Development from Alaska Pacific University, an academic foundation that reflects her lifelong dedication to equity, place-based planning, and community resilience.
Now at MVP for Transportation, Kim is focused on leading a collaborative, forward-looking approach to transportation planning; one that balances growth, access, safety, and sustainability while keeping community voices at the center of every decision.
Whether she’s facilitating cross-sector partnerships, advancing regional planning strategies, or envisioning the next era of infrastructure in the Mat-Su, Kim brings heart, clarity, and a results-driven mindset to her work.
